Yugioh&Magic Target Loot (Great Pull)

Last weekend I ended up buying a lot of Yugioh and Magic cards. (Pls don’t realize how wrong the featured image is!)

I got this stuff at Target and Redcaps because somehow both Walmart and Target didn’t have Commander 2016 :/

The Notable Yugioh Pulls and Commander Stuff

I probably would not have been so hyped about this tin if I had not opened the format staple Solemn Strike. I got the magic starter deck because I dig the art for this Nissa. I ended up selling the packs that came with it. Also I’m going to try playing Atraxa, since red is the color I used the least in Progenitus.

My Roommate pulled the nice Masterpiece from his Kaladesh packs also.

A Thank You

Second thing I want to do in this post is thank a close friend who sold me collection after deciding to quit Yugioh. He’s been constantly selling high-end cards to me offering great deals ever since I met him and it’s meant a lot to me.

I wouldn’t have nearly as strong a collection without all his help. I wish him the best of luck in competitive Overwatch.

The Tragic Invasion of Vengeance (One of the Worst Yugioh Sets of 2016)

So to distract myself (and hopefully you too) from the impending potential end of America here’s some mindless drivel about Yugioh cards.

The Box, The Story and the Future…

sdc19009

So I’m about to make the questionable business decision of telling you all the reasons why not to buy the product I’m about to sell.

So I pre-ordered a box of INOV when Toadally Awesome and Dimensional Barrier were spoiled. However, after looking at the prices of the rest of the cards in the set I realized that this set has very little value outside of the those specific secret rares. I’d liken this to the Secrets of Eternity set in that:

  • It’s value was limited to a few secrets: Qliphort Monolith, Soul Transition, etc.
  • It primarily introduced non-meta archetype(s):  Infernoids out of SECE were not a deck and neither are these Crystrons or Chemicritters (and worse yet neither are likely to become meta decks down the road)

Now to be fair, this set has one huge advantage over Secrets and that’s Dimensional Barrier.

124795_200w

This card is playable in literally any deck. It’s a viable sideboard card that can effortlessly win games against certain decks. Currently, this card is your best chance at profiting off your box.

capturedb

I don’t like those odds so I’m selling my box. I’ll be the lowest listing on tcgplayer in a matter of minutes.

I bought all of the cards pictured from friends who cracked their own boxes. Most if not all of them are new pieces for my much beloved jank decks. I don’t regret this decision especially since I’m stuck in a rut in competitive Yugioh at the moment. Anyway that’s a post for another day.

Anyway, it’s time to hope that the country is still here when I wake up in a few hours.

Thanks for reading as usual.

Invasion: Vengeance Sneak Peek, What even happened here? Why was it so terrible?

To complete a day wherein I got 3 hours of late beforehand (on a cold museum floor) I must recall the events of the earlier Yugioh Sneak Peek.

I’m beyond tired so this is going to be short.

Pulls:

Results from the first 5 packs.

Pulls from all 10 packs.

Thoughts?

No Toadally Awesome pulls here…

.

..

Yep even at 2 AM that wasn’t funny. I’m sorry.

One of my friends did open said Rank 2 Xyz alongside winning the raffled mat. This is when the store offered a win-a-box tournament, however he forgot his deck so he borrowed/augmented my Tellar Ties deck for the event on the spot.

The Likely Last Tellar Ties Deck Profile

sdc18708

sdc18710

sdc18711

So like we built this deck on the spot using cards from my deck and our pulls.

Why didn’t I enter you ask?

Well I didn’t have Silver Gadget at that point so my ABC deck wasn’t complete (I now have said gadgets).

Anyway to make a long story short, my friend who plays Blue-Eyes team-killed my friend playing said aforementioned Tellar deck. He then went on to get rulesharked into game 1 loss round 2. I walked away at this point only to return to watch Toadally Awesome steal his Blue Eyes Spirit Dragon…

And so the story started cool, got less cool and thus ended in sadness.

Anyway, the ABC deck is almost done (bar the Pot of Desires I have no intention of being). I’ll likely discuss it after I get in more playtesting. As for the event it was not as fun as Shining Victories or Breakers of Shadow in that the common/low rarity archetypes don’t interest me at all (Chimecritters and Crystrons? Yeah no thanks). I’m somewhat excited to start building Predator Plants though the fact that they’re now called Predaplants has somewhat lessened my enthusiasm.

In conclusion too many meme-names this set.

Thanks for reading as usual.

$35 Yugioh Star Pack Box? $8 Tin Goldfish? What could possibly go wrong?

I wish I could find a time to post about my card game exploits at some time other than 3-4 AM. Anyway, this blog post is about the last 2 Yugioh related things I did.

Yeah…

Here’s what happened:

Star Pack 2014: The Hunt for Goldfish

So a buddy of mine thought it would be a decent gamble to crack Star Pack 2014 in order to get Tin Goldfish and Photon Thrashers for new meta decks (Heroes and ABCs).

sdc18165

We got each on Amazon for $36. Tin Goldfish is $10 and Thrasher is $5. Could we break even or plus?

You already know the answer. You seldom plus, but you often break even.

sdc18172

Honestly, I loved opening this set. $36 for 50 three card packs? Packs filled with generic Xyz monsters? Sign me up! This box opening has fueled the extra of many jank format Yugioh decks.

Relevant Pulls

sdc18176

Due to Thunder End Dragon being $2 or adequately explained reason this wasn’t a terrible box value-wise. I already had Photon Thrashers from my jank decks so these are just extra for me to move online. Only getting 2 Goldfish hurts, but it was still a fair opening.

Yugioh Locals 10/21/16

Ties of Brethren Tellarknights  at the Yesterday’s Locals

So after buying into multiple Yugi’s Legendary Decks II and decided to try out Satellarknights updated with Ties of Brethren.

This deck is in a very initial stage so most of my choices (all of my choices) may not be optimal.

sdc18344

Yes I only have 2 Ties at the moment. I have the 3rd in the mail, but ran the deck with 2 last night.

sdc18347

There were a lot of flaws in this extra deck, but at the end of the day Triverr is all that really matters.

sdc18352

So I was planning to play Kozmo and test Tellar Ties afterward. After being goaded into playing this deck instead I hastily made this side deck using random stuff from my Kozmo deck. I sided Daigusto Emeral for longer games…

Moving on…

Round 1: Vs Yosenju Kaiju

This was a surprisingly unfair match up in my favor. The mix of traps and Altair effectively kept my opponent from getting off the ground at all. Game 2 I opened turn 1 ties and walled up behind multiple traps. It was scarily one-sided after I Nova-Alpha countered his first Yosenju.

Win 2-0

I got the bye round 2…

Round 3: Vs Chain Beat

So both of us were playing low monster count high trap count decks. As a result our game 1 was a 20 minute grindfest. Every creature got destroyed one after another. He had double Burden of the Mighty on board so my only path to victory was poking with weak monsters while keeping his guys off the board. I couldn’t go into Triverr due to my opponent setting up multiple Void Trap Holes off Myrmello and Duality.

The early game I bricked opening only my own Myrmello and double Stellarnova Alpha. My opponent played Prohibition on Stellarknight Altair (which I of course drew). I ended up using Call of the Haunted to reanimate Myrmello to destroy Prohibition. After getting out Altair I began the next leg of the battle. How do you kill Wind-Up Rabbit and Evilswarm Thunderbird when you play a deck of targeted and mass removal?

My answer was use trap to get said chain beat dude to attempt a tag out, then using Stellarnova Alpha to negate and destroy it. This incredibly resource intensive play downed 1 Rabbit and 1 Thunderbird before the end of Game 1. I won the match with 5 cards left in deck as a 700 attack Deneb launched the final direct attack.

Game 2 I forced through Triverr early on and took the game by defending him with a pile of traps. It wasn’t nearly as satisfying as the first match up though. That game was the most grindy Yugioh game I’d played in ages.

Win 2-0

Thoughts?

I’m certain this deck isn’t actually competitive without Solemn Strike (which I have no intention of buying), but it’s also on par with my Kozmo deck so I’m not sure which to play if I either keep playing either with the new ABC deck coming out. Regardless, it was a nice change of pace and a fairly fun deck to play. Similar to when card of Demise came out, I’d argue that Ties of Brethren may offer a chance for Tellarknights to exist in this format as an acceptable rogue deck.

Thanks for reading as always.

Which is better: a Harem of Yugioh Traptrix or Taking the Magic Crown?

Yugioh Mega Tin 2016

sdc15893-001

I cracked 2 of the recent Yugi Mega Tins a few weeks back. This second run of Mega Tins has continued Konami’s trend of reprinting all of the major cards from last year’s core sets. In this case, Crossed Souls, Dimension of Chaos, and Breakers of Shadows were the main sets reprinted.

My Pulls:

sdc15907-001

The Mega Tin has effectively crashed the price of every card reprinted in it. Solemn Strike (at the time of this post) is the most expensive card to pull at a mere $20 (I say that because this card had a height of $50 a few months back). I wanted this set for the reprints and the new D/D/D support so I am very satisfied with my pulls. I’ve since traded for a Clear Wing Synchro Dragon the only other Mega Pack card I really wanted.

As far as general thoughts go, the Mega Tin is a good time to pick up cards for cheap that may be worth something down the road. An example of this is Jiaotu, Darkness of the Yang Zing reprinted in the lack Mega Tin that has recently shot up due to the Metalfoe Yang Zing variant. I’m not really speculating on any cards from the Mega Tin, but I don’t plan on selling any of my excess foils at the moment.

Conspiracy 2: Take the Crown

I can safely say the draft format of Conspiracy 2 was incredibly fun. My favorite card was Leovold’s Emissary which effectively lets you take two cards from a pack (allowing you to avoid those tough later decisions.

My 1st Picks

  • 1st pick/1st Pick was Phyrexian Arena
  • 2nd pack/1st pick was Regicide
  • 3rd pack/1st pick was Exotic Orchard

My pod then drafted our pity pack and I first picked Recruiter of the Guard (but didn’t play it)

My Deck:

sdc16082-001

I played Sultai Control based heavily in Black. The strength of my deck was 100% the 3 copies of Regicide. Between first picking 1 and being passed 2, I was equipped with 3 one mana kill spells for everything but the vanilla 5/7 artifact creature. Needless to say they came in handy over the course of the hour and half long 4-player grindfest that came afterward.

Match: Vs Naya Aggro vs 60 Card Green/White Monarchy Matters and vs Hymm of the Wilds Mono Creature Deck

This game took forever and there’s no reason to go into much detail about it.

.

..

So what happened was:

The Naya player was stuck on mana and color screwed ending the game with 1 white source and 6 lands in play (after more than an hour)

The Hymm of the Wilds Player had an army of creatures, but had to hold the ground against the Monarchy Matters player

Said Monarchy Player had 3 Throne Wardens that grew during his time as the monarch up to 8/8, 7/7 and 4/4.

I had the ground held with Shambling Goblins/Zombie tokens thanks to my Conspiracy Assemble the Rank and Vile. What turned the tables on everyone else were my 3 copies of Cloaked Siren.

After an endphase Regicide on the Monarchy players heavily invested into Animus of Predation (Flying, Trample, Vigilance) I domed him for 9 in the air. After he made a flying blocker I killed it with Murder before finishing him with the Sirens.

The Hymm player tried Goading the Naya player into attacking me with his first big creature, but I had the ground troops to block it. I then kept turning the Siren horde sideways until both of them lost.

I finished the game at 5 life with 4 cards left in deck. Due to holding the Monarch alongside Phyrexian Arena I was effectively drawing 3 cards per turn.

Thoughts?

The draft part of Conspiracy 2 was the most fun I had drafting in ages. The actual game was a tense grindfest, which admittedly wasn’t that much fun. Despite this I would still definitely recommend drafting Conspiracy 2 for the sheer fun of it (because there’s not much value in the set anymore outside of rare foils currently). In the same manner as the Mega Tins, these cards need a long time to accrue (or regain) value.

Anyway, I’m going to enter a Yugioh regional in a few hours. So there’ll be that to talk about.

Until then thanks for reading as usual.

How it feels to drop $100 on card gaming… supplies?!

It’s been 2 weeks since the EMA draft. Since then I’ve had a lot of ideas for posts, but never got around to actually writing them. In lieu of anything meaningful though I’m going to mull over the card gaming purchases I’ve made since EMA.

Why?

.

..

I don’t know.

Yugioh

SDC13337

While at Target I found this so-called “Value Pack” rightly on sale. Included in this pack were:

  • A set of 70 Konami Sleeves
  • 6 Random Zexal Era Packs
  • An Over-sized Mecha-Phantom Beast Dracossack

There was virtually no EV in any of these packs, but on impulse I got it opening nothing crazy, but pulled decent enough to not complain. In addition to this I picked up 2 Yugioh Repacks which turned out to have Legendary Collection Yugi’s World packs in them. Gambling on opening Mask of Restrict I got 2, but saw no mask, though the 2 Upstart Goblins, Torrential and Mirror Force more than made up for it.

Then during the same day at Walmart I picked up an actual Legendary Collection Yugi’s World. Again with the hope that Mask of Restrict would justify all of my mad expenditure. I did pull a Mask along with enough nice foils to not regret anything.

SDC13343

Magic the Gathering

I started making a more concrete effort to get better at EDH. Though while I bought a lot of singles for my existing decks, my main Magic purchase of the month was a pre-made Karador, Ghost Chieftain deck. I won it on ebay and decided to just keep it after making some edits.

SDC13376

All this not counting lands/commons for $40.

Weiss Schwarz and  Huge Supply Purchase

SDC13438-001

Well I always said that one day I’d invest in protecting my Yugioh collection and that day came when I finally bought 30 deck boxes from Potomac. That along with ten 100 card deck boxes were ironically not enough to store all that I have, but it’s a nice start.  Alongside that I got some Yugioh sized Dragon Shield sleeves (mostly because I didn’t know they existed). On impulse I also got 2 Weiss Schwarz decks. Why? I again don’t really know. I’ve come to see Weiss as the best card game to never actually play. I like collecting the cards, but I don’t really like playing the game.

SDC13461-001

I ended up splitting the product with a buddy, if that makes reconsider seeing me as insane for buying this much.

SDC13464-001

Looked cute, liked the shows, good enough reason in my book.

Anyway, thanks for reading as usual. I’ll get back in the swing of things soon.

My Shining Victory (How to Build 2 Yugioh decks at one Sneak Peek!)

I went to the Shining Victories Sneak Peek yesterday as the massively time-consuming study break. As it’s currently 4 AM , I’m just going to upload some pictures and briefly give the highlights of the day.

Pulls/Acquisitions:

SDC11641-001

Our 5 person party got to the Alternate Universes location at 1 pm nearing the store’s inevitable running out of sealed product. We all got 2 bundles of packs.

My most relevant pull was a Blue Eyes Spirit Dragon which I traded for the Nekroz of Trishula and Tezzeret (because I saw a lone mtg card in a ygo binder and got very excited). The day then became a grind of asking everyone in the store for Lunalight Panther Dancer as only 6 were opened in the store, but 5+ people (3 members of my own group included) wanted to build the deck.

I got all of the pieces for a Digital Bug deck in under 10 minutes, the only card I had to trade for being the Rhinocerus Xyz. I never found a Panther Dancer, but I got the rest of the deck (as did one of my comrades who did manage to get a single Panther).

A $1 binder was found at the store. Much of these random cards are from that binder, because $1 binders are love, $1 binders are life.

Someone sold me the FoW and Pkm cards too (happiness over getting almost all the card games! That I play anyway hehe).

The sneak peek was a blast and I’d go again if able. Truth be told it was just opening new cards and trading with up-charging strangers and shady types, but the results made it all worth.

The birds have started to chirp, which means its time to sleep. Thanks for reading as always,
